In this tutorial we'll be using RPF sequences generated in Carrara Pro to create a depth of field pass that we can use in our post editing application (After Effects, Combustion, etc), For much more control and a faster render.

Applications used include:
Carrara 6.2 Pro
Adobe After Effects CS3

A couple of tips have come to my attention since I made this tutorial.

The first is that for the finicky 3D Depth of Field filter controls you can just right click on the values and edit them.
I've found that -100 and 100 work nicely for Carraras RPF sequences. (Thanks Dimension Theory!)

The second is that if you click on a point in the image the depth value will show up in the info panel making it easier to set your focal plane in 3D depth. (Thanks Qamarnahaar!)

Awesome looking animation. Nice tutorial. I did a tutorial recently on doing DOF in Combustion that compliment this. I didn't go into as much detail on the compositing inside Combustion, but covered setting up the node schematic and such.

I love Carrara, but DAZ 3D Sucks.
